“Kids are like a mirror, what they see or hear they do. Be a good reflection for them”-Health
This is what I always tell parents, your kids come and reflect what they see or hear at home. Parents always ask me about ways for dealing with their kids. Here is a tip of advice:
- Do not reflect your own fears on your child (e.g. if you are scared of a cat, it doesn’t mean your child has to fear the cat too). Phobia is learnt!
- QUALITY TIME: yes, I intended on writing this in capital. Parents either misunderstand the meaning of quality time or they end up confusing all about it. No I don’t mean hand your child the IPAD, phone, turn on TV, for him/her while you chat with your own friends. Physically you are there, but mentally you are not. Instead grab a book read to him/her if your child is between 3-6 years. Communicate with your children, talk to them, tell them about your day, and ask them about theirs. This applies to all ages. You may wish to play a game together as well.
- Do not overprotective: let them fly. Being exposed to little cold, germs, and being hurt from time to time, is ok. Be there to talk and listen if they need it. The “do not do…” won’t work every time. As adults we all know the difficulty of life in adapting to it. Being overprotective will do more harm than good. You should teach them how to make decisions, and teach them to defend themselves. You can’t always be around them!
- Let them learn from their own mistakes, your job as parents is to let them know what is wrong and what’s right. Kids won’t always remember what you say, but they will definitely remember how you made them feel.
As we fold the page of another academic year, and adding my 5th year at CSP, I promise you more weekly tips and advice next year.
It’s been a busy year, but what is really rewarding for my hard-work is seeing our children smile, being comfortable, stress-free, and living a little less anxiety throughout their academic year.
I will leave you here, wishing you all a wonderful summer holiday!
Be safe, and don’t forget to have more fun with your children!
See you all in September 2016 God Willing
